UNLV Chapter 100 of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest, largest and most selective all-discipline academic honor society, held its 2013 Induction Ceremony on Monday, April 22, in the Student Union Ballroom. UNLV’s Chapter 100 welcomed approximately 200 students, faculty and staff members into the prestigious society.

Casey Eade was named the junior initiate with the highest grade point average and will serve on the Chapter 100 board. Three students – Marina Manakova, Jean Norman, and Kristen Tardio — were recognized for their volunteerism and service to the chapter.

Distinguished Member status was bestowed on Michael Bowers, Professor of Political Science, for his past leadership and support of Chapter 100. Two outstanding UNLV alumni, Lori Marrs and Patrick Smith were inducted into the chapter. Marrs is the founder and managing partner of Marrs Bergquist CPAs. She has been a licensed certified public accountant since 1989. Smith, in addition to being a trusted adviser to government officials and business leaders throughout Nevada, held several key CSUN positions and was the founding president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity while a student at UNLV.

Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 100 members may wear a special medallion and honor cord at Commencement, and their membership is noted on UNLV transcripts.

Nationally, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi inducts approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni annually. Once inducted, Phi Kappa Phi members gain a lifelong passport to a global network of academic and professional opportunities.
